TEDxParramatta is the leading platform for ideas worth spreading from Western Sydney to the world.
Home to over two million people of diverse backgrounds, Western Sydney is a multi-centred hub for innovation – in technology, art, science, education and business. TedxParramatta draws on the global success of the TEDx platform to create a localised meeting point for the sharing of ideas. Central to this is the cross-pollination between industries, which has been at the heart of collaborative projects across the region.
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxParramatta, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxParramatta event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.
TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world.
Evolving out of the success of TED, the TEDx initiative was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED.
